60,000 words! And the rest of the story is skeleton-drafted. That sounds like a lot, since Stealing Jade came in at 80k, but I actually edited Stealing Jade down from over 100k words. As that implies, the real time-consumer will be in editing.
Jade and Soren are complicated characters to write; both deeply wounded and taking on too much. Sometimes as I’m writing, I’m thinking “how the hell will these two work out?!” – But I went through the same process when I was writing Stealing Sand.
Somehow, they’ll figure it out on their own; I just need to throw them together often and with stakes. I’m basically acting as a demented god-tier matchmaker in their world.
Until next time~
